Arizona Apprenticeship Advisory Committee (AAAC)
The Arizona Apprenticeship system is a voluntary, industry-driven system of on-the-job training and related technical instruction, approved by the State of Arizona, sponsored by employers, employer associations, and jointly by management and labor. An apprentice, as an employee, receives supervised, structured, on-the-job work experience combined with related technical instruction in a specific occupation
The Workforce Arizona Council (WAC) is Arizona’s Human Resource Investment Council. It is the goal of the WAC to provide business and industry with a vehicle to implement and ensure quality training in order to create the skilled workforce necessary to maintain and enhance Arizona’s economy.
To ensure that Apprenticeship is promoted and recognized as an important employment and training resource for Arizona’s business, industry and citizens, the Arizona Apprenticeship Advisory Committee of the WAC is established. On behalf of Arizona, the Arizona Apprenticeship Advisory Committee will coordinate, advise, and recommend approval of procedures for the registration of Apprenticeship programs, and establish quality thresholds of employers and employees in a sound, voluntary system of apprenticeship for men and women in skilled trades and occupations.
The Registration Agency will coordinate its work and approval of standards of apprenticeship and apprentice agreements with the adopted procedures and regulations of the U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Apprenticeship, in order to bring about a uniform system of apprenticeship throughout the United States.
The National Apprenticeship Act of 1937, Section 1 (29 U.S.C. 50), authorizes and directs the Secretary of Labor to formulate and promote the furtherance of labor standards necessary to safeguard the welfare of apprentices, to bring together employers and labor for the formulation of programs of apprenticeship, and to cooperate with state agencies engaged in the formulation and promotion of standards of apprenticeship.
The Equal Employment Opportunity in Apprenticeship - State Plan (29 CFR part 30) is an integral part of the Arizona Apprenticeship System State Plan, Section 16.0 herein attached.
